Signs of Subluxation in Children

While trying to choose a topic for my article, I realized that I have discussed the importance of chiropractic care for kids, but I have not described the signs and symptoms of subluxations.  These signs vary with age and I will discuss what to look for in each age category.

While trying to choose a topic for my article, I realized that I have discussed the importance of chiropractic care for kids, but I have not described the signs and symptoms of subluxations.  These signs vary with age and I will discuss what to look for in each age category.

  • Newborn-

Difficulty nursing or preference for a side
    Frequent spitting up
Prefers certain head positions—i.e. turned to right or bent to the right
Extremely fussy, especially the same time of day
Holds head up soon after birth
  • Infant/Toddler—
    Several delayed milestones
    Always rolls to same side
Prefers army/tripod crawl instead of all fours.
One foot turned in or out when standing or trying to walk
    Frequent recurrent ear
            infections
  • School Age-
Frequent “low-grade” illnesses or “never get over their cold” - both signs of a weak immune response
Growing pains, especially if only on one side
    Asthma
    Headaches

  • By the time a child reaches adolescence, subluxations often present much like adults with neck, back, and leg pains, as well as headaches and internal complaints.
Children do not, or cannot, voice their problems the same as adults.  When you watch children closely, however, you will start to see some of these subtle signs.  Catching these problems as early as possible can help to avoid complications later in life.

Heartburn - put down the Tums and step away slowly

Heartburn.  Most of us have had some experience with it.  Whether it was a bit of indiscretion with the jalapeno-covered nachos or a daily battle waged with diet restrictions and medications, the symptoms can range from annoying to concerning.
