Colic Care with Kid’s Chiropractic

There are many things new parents have to deal with when it comes to the care of newborns and infants. Many parents do not consider the benefits of kids chiropractic care to alleviate some of the issues that may arise. During the birth process, the twists and moves that occur can compress or stretch an infant’s spine. These slight misalignments can cause problems including colic, poor eating, irritability, unusual crying and poor sleeping habits.

Newborn Spinal Care

Spinal adjustments on a newborn baby are simple, easy and gentle. The pressure needed to align a newborn’s spine is very minimal, making it comfortable for the baby as well as the parents as they carefully watch over their child’s care. These simple adjustments can help to relieve pressure that can cause many of the common infant and newborn issues – including the issue most parents dread, colic.

Colic Care

Colic is a very common condition that affects many infants during the first few months to the first year of life. This condition is characterized by sudden and unexplained fussiness, a loud piercing cry, stomach rumblings, tight muscles, the inability to get comfortable and clenched fingers. It most commonly starts to appear around three weeks of age and is usually gone in a few months, but it can last for 6 months or more in some cases. Approximately 10-20% of babies are affected by colic.

Colic and Chiropractors

Despite all of the medical advances and research done on colic, there is still no known cause and right now, most traditional treatments are focused on alleviating the symptoms. Kids’ chiropractic care seems to be the best treatment option as over 90% of colicky babies who have chiropractic adjustments end up showing some improvement in the severity and frequency of their colic episodes. Chiropractic care offers gentle, non-invasive, safe and highly successful treatment for infants with even severe cases of colic.

Research on new and improved treatments for colic and more in-depth studies of the condition itself, have shown that adding kids’ chiropractic care to other lifestyle changes such as diet and infant care basics can go a long way in making you and your infant happier and healthier!

Chiropractic and Medicine

What’s the difference between chiropractic and medicine?

Simply stated: Chiropractic is not Medicine.

  • “Medicine is focused exclusively on disease and what causes man to die.  Chiropractic is focused exclusively on health and what causes man to live!” – B.J. Palmer
  • Chiropractic exists “to free a society from the pernicious delusion of the superiority of drug medication and the necessity of surgical mutilation” – D.D. Palmer, DC, PhC.
  • “The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease” – Voltaire
  • “Chiropractic is a philosophy, science, and art of things natural; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand only, for the correction of the cause of dis-ease.”

We are not, and do not want to be medical doctors.  We remove interference to the expression of health through and over the nervous system,  allowing LIFE to be expressed.  We are chiropractors and that’s what we do.

A Chiropractic View of Fever

Your child wakes you up at 1:30am, crying.  You feel their head and they’re burning up.  What’s your first instinct?

Do you reach for Children’s Tylenol to break the fever?

Or do you trust the instinct of their amazingly complex body to do exactly what it must do to fight off the infection?

Fever is a GOOD thing!

Imagine you had some house guests who had overstayed their welcome, invited more people over and were making your life incredibly miserable.  You’ve asked them politely to leave and they only ignore you.  What would be a non-violent way to get them out?  Turn up the thermostat and make it extremely uncomfortable in the house.

That’s exactly what fever does.  Viruses and bacteria have developed the uncanny ability to grow best at temperatures around 98.6 degrees. They move in, throw a party and make life miserable.  So the body, in it’s infinite wisdom, turns up the heat – something the viruses and bacteria do not like at all.  Fever incapacitates the invaders, allowing the immune system to wipe them out!

Chiropractic care improves immune system function!

Several studies have shown an improvement in immune system function following chiropractic adjustments.  If you know how “wellness” works, it just makes sense – the immune system is a direct extension, a “sixth sense”, of the nervous system and since chiropractic care directly removes interference from the nervous system, the immune system is improved as well!

So the next time your child has a fever, call the chiropractor and celebrate (quietly, their body needs rest) that the amazing healing power – innately given by our Creator – is at work!

Do Vaccines Make Kids Healthier?

There is much controversy surrounding childhood vaccines and whether or not they actually make kids healthier.  A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association seems to lend credence to the notion that vaccines do not make kids healthier.

Another question may be: are unvaccinated kids healthier because they don’t get vaccinated, or because they are brought up in families who have a different health philosophy – who rely on natural alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs, who choose healthy foods instead of processed “food products”, who see the inherent value of exercise for health promotion and treasure close relationships with family and friends?

We have chosen not to vaccinate our kids, not because we’re against vaccinations, but because we believe that we, as human beings, were endowed by our creator with everything we require to be healthy.  Do our kids get illnesses? Yes.  Is that a bad thing? No.  When they get sick, do we rush them to the “doctor”? Nope.  Our 4-year-old has never even been to a medical doctor.  Are they sick as often as their schoolmates? Not even close.  Is it because they are unvaccinated? I don’t know.  What I do know is that we feed them good food (although they do get some things that aren’t that good), keep them moving with regular exercise, make sure they get enough sleep and check their nerve systems for interference weekly – they don’t let us forget to do that…ever.

Our kids live the chiropractic lifestyle.
