The Importance of a Picture

A very active patient of mine (my wife) has been dealing with right foot pain in the medial arch for 6 months.  Adjustments helped, but relief was temporary.  Shoes with increased support were uncomfortable to run in because of the rigidity of the sole.  A new type of orthotic was introduced with no success.  We finally took an xray of her foot and discovered the problem – an accessory navicular – an extra bone (developmentally) that changes foot mechanics.  Because of this discovery, we are now on a journey to change her running style, change her running shoes in an effort to change her mechanics.

It took additional work, but it proved successful and will increase efficiency and speed and reduce the compensatory stress that will shorten her running career.

Get things checked, get them stable – you’ll be glad you did!
